Kas Pathar, also known as the Kaas Plateau, is a beautiful destination located 25 kilometres west of Satara city in Maharashtra, India. This plateau is a part of the Sahyadri Sub-Cluster of the Western Ghats and was declared a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 2012. The plateau sits at an elevation of 1200 meters and covers an area of approximately 10 square kilometres.
One of the main attractions of Kas Pathar is its diverse range of flowering plants. With over 850 different species of plants, it is a paradise for nature enthusiasts. The plateau is home to various orchids, shrubs like Karvy, and even carnivorous plants such as Drosera Indica.
Kas Pathar is a plateau formed from volcanic rocks in the Satara district of Maharashtra and is an important part of the Western Ghats biosphere. If you are a nature enthusiast, then Kas Pathar is a must-visit destination for you.
The annual wildflower bloom on the plateau during the monsoon season (August-September) is truly a sight to behold! The colourful flowers create a beautiful carpet on the ground, making it a popular destination for nature lovers and photographers. Best time to visit

The best time to witness the blooming of flowers is from mid-August to early September, during the peak of the monsoon season.

Entry Fee:-

  • Rs.. 150/- per person for online booking, print must be provided, mobile screenshots will not be accepted (children below 12 years free entry).
  • Special discount for students: Fee Rs.. 40/- per person. A letter from the Head of School / College will be mandatory. No discount will be given if there is no letter. Discounts will not be available on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Guide facility: Fee – Rs.. 200/- per hour. (A Guide for Ten Persons)
  • Cycle Ride: Charges Rs.. 50/- per hour (from Highway to Kumudi Lake)

The beauty of Kas Pathar in Satara comes alive during monsoons, due to the enchanting flowers that bloom during this season. This is how you can plan a short trip to Kas to reduce the monotony of your regular city life. Those who have previously taken a road trip from Mumbai or Pune to Kas know firsthand that it is an unforgettable experience.

By Road

In Maharashtra, Kas is 30 km from Satara and 25 km from  Mahabaleshwar. The distance between Pune and Kas Plateau is 136 km, which is covered in 2.5 to 3.5 hours by travelling through NH4. The distance from Mumbai is 278 km. It takes about 5 hours to reach Kas Plateau by car using the Mumbai-Pune Expressway NH4.

From both Mumbai and Pune, you have to drive to Satara on NH4. Then we have to change the route from Satara for another 22 km. This road trip will remain forever in the memory. The only reason for this is the last ascent of the Kaas Plateau Valley. It is a beautiful sight and one of the most scenic road trips in India. If you decide to go by bus, there are numerous overnight buses from Mumbai to Satara to suit all budgets.

By rail By Train

You can take the “Koyna Express” from Mumbai to Satara, local auto-rickshaws are available for hire to take you from the railway station to Kas Plateau, or you can take a bus from the railway station to Satara S.T. Depot.

By Plane

Kas can be reached as soon as possible by flying to Pune. Then one can reach the Kaas Plateau by road NH4.

Kas Pathar Conservation Guidelines:

1. Please avoid walking on trees and flower beds to protect their delicate nature.

2. It is important not to cut any plants or flowers as they contribute to the beauty of the plateau.

3. Let’s keep the plateau clean by not littering. Avoid throwing plastic bottles, food wrappers, or gutkha pouches.

4. To preserve the ecosystem, it is advised not to eat on the plateau. Avoid throwing food or chewing gum, as it can harm the fauna and pollinators.

5. Kindly avoid using any music system to maintain a peaceful environment.

6. If you are into microphotography, please be cautious not to damage the surrounding plants while standing or kneeling.

7. Vehicles are prohibited on the plateau, so please refrain from taking them there.

8. Show compassion towards all animals on the plateau, including snakes and scorpions. Do not harm them and take care of their well-being.

9. Let’s maintain a clean and healthy environment by avoiding drinking or smoking on the plateau.

10. It is recommended not to stop on the plateau between 6 pm and 6 am.

11. If you witness someone engaging in activities that harm the plateau, such as cutting trees or sitting on plants, kindly approach them with good words. If they refuse to listen, seek the assistance of forest guards.
